Just one of those days

Do you ever wake up in the morning and know that your day is going to be "one of those days"? Well, today was just that for me. Everything was out of order starting in the middle of the night when Nathaniel woke up crying and in my efforts to let him cry it out he woke up Jeffrey. At that point Jeffrey became terrified and ended up in bed with daddy while mommy laid out on the couch with Nathaniel for 2 hours while he sorted out his pains from growing and teething. From 3 in the morning until 7 I got to lay on the couch pondering the realization that I was already having a "day".

Life doesn't really stop and take in consideration how well you slept the night before when it determines what adventures to throw at you. Even though I didn't get much sleep, I still had life to live today and obligations to fulfill. I knew that my responsibilities to the kids had to be a priority. I had to get them to their doctor appointments, feed them, get them down for naps, read to them, play games with them, and take care of them. Life was going to happen whether I was awake or not. I made the decision to jump on board and just hang on hoping that life didn't get the idea to buck me off somewhere in the middle of the day.

I successfully made it to 4 pm without too much incident and that is when I decided to go to the phone store and attempt to get my phone fixed. I should have known when I walked into the store and was greeted with "Happy Labor Day" that this was not going to be a successful visit as Labor Day is next week. At any rate I proceeded to tell the man the problems with my phone and how it had the white screen of death. He seemed to listen but his response was to give me a card with a phone number on it and instructions to call the number and have them help me. Umm, my phone is broken and doesn't work at all, how am I supposed to do this? I asked him if he could just help me and he said that I needed to call them myself and do this with them over the phone. I realized at that moment that I was not going to get anywhere talking to a man who is a week ahead of the rest of the US.

Being the independant woman that I am, I decided to drive to David's work and ask him for help. This sounded like a good idea in my head until I drove up to the guard gate and realized that David had no clue I was coming and I had no way to contact him. I asked the guard to call him and he asked me for his number. Duh, it is in my broken phone! Geez, I'm such a dork!

[He looked at me as if to say (but didn't), "you don't know your husband's phone number?" Ok, so I have a few things in my brain and don't really have room for phone numbers! Get off my back! ]

Anyhoo, after a few phone calls he managed to get a hold of David who promptly met us in the parking lot and let me use his phone to call the number the guy wanted me to call on my broken phone. I called customer service who proceeded to tell me that I needed to download the new software for my blackberry even though I only use it for phone calls and not the internet. Really? You have to update your phone to make phone calls? Did Alex Bell really have this in mind when he invented this thing? Geez, ok so I will go home and try to download these software updates and see if my phone works. (which, by the way, didn't work and I now have to go back to the store I was origionally in again) I thanked David for taking time out of his work day to let me not fix my phone and drove off.

At this point Jeffrey was chanting "chee nuts, chee nuts". Now to an outsider you would thing he wants cheese nuts however to the trained mommy ears I knew he wanted chicken nuggets. Bless his heart. I had no idea it was already 7 pm! Where had those 3 hours of my life gone? Knowing that I would never get those hours back and that they had been wasted on customer service that wasn't really a service but more of a "customer tell you what to do to fix your own problem because we are too busy texting our girlfriends to help you," I decided to agree to the "chee nuts". We drove to McDonald's and I began ordering when I saw this blue car come whipping up and blocking my car. I looked up and saw David jumping out yelling something. I stuck my head out the window and heard him say, "you have my ID badge". Geez oh Pete! We had driven off with his work ID and he was not able to get in the building. If only I had a phone that worked he could have called me. Oh well, we passed over the ID, said goodbye to daddy again, paid for our food and drove away.

When we got home and set down at the table I realized that I had forgotten to go to Walmart for diapers and dog food, both of which we were completely out of. Poop! I tried to come up with a simple solution in my head but knew the only good solution involved us loading up the car again and heading to Walmart. I allowed the boys adequate time to eat and then loaded them up once again and out we went. By this time it was close to 9 pm and after Jeffrey's bedtime. The poor kid had red circles around his eyes and big bags under those. He looked horrible but I knew that if I didn't have those butt covers we would be in trouble. We got to Walmart and began our shopping spree when I noticed that I was there with a whole different crowd from our normal morning trips. The late night (and I say late night as if 9 pm is past midnight or something) crowd is strange! Did you know that Elvis works in the gun dept at night? (be jealous, I found him!) There are a lot of kids without shoes on at Walmart late at night, my kids included. The stock people are kinda vicious with their carts full of boxes and you don't want to get in their way. They are on a mission and if you stand in the way even without knowing, they get a little bit frustrated with you. The people who work the check out counters are much slower at night than in the day, I guess they just don't have the energy that late at night. The men who push the carts in are very scary looking at night. I think it has to do with the little single flashing light attached to the cart pusher thingy that they are operating. It is like a little reminder that there is a person out there in that vast darkness.

My day wasn't horrible but I did learn a few things that I would like to pass to you. Go to Walmart while the sun is up, don't try to communicate with people who are living in the future and when all else fails, if you are too tired to remember that you need to go to the bathroom, you should probably just stay home.
