Hey everyone! I thought I would get this idea out there so you have time to shop for the supplies. I got my angel at the Dollar Tree. It is actually a little plastic ornament. This is a great celebration for younger kiddos and then as they get older instead of reading through the celebration part you can have them read the actual Christmas Story from the Bible, finding the elements of the cake in the story (the star, angel, light, etc). Hope you enjoy this celebration, please know that you can change it to fit your own family style. This is only a suggestion and there are a million ways you can celebrate our Savior.:-)
JESUS' BIRTHDAY CAKE
Ingredients:
white cake mix & tub of white icing
angel for top of cake
yellow food coloring
12 red birthday candles and 12 large marshmallows
dish to put the cake on that is a little larger than the cake.
Large white candle and candle holder.
1. Bake a round white cake.
2. Take a little icing out of the tub of white icing and set it aside.
3. Ice the cake with the remaining white icing.
4. Put yellow food coloring in the icing you set aside. Put it in an icing tool and make a star in the middle of the cake. (It should be about half the cake size.
5. Put an angel in the center of the star. It can be a small angel such as one from the manger or inexpensive glass or even a thin, plastic one from the cake decorating section.
6. Put 12 large marshmallows around the bottom of the cake (on the cake plate not the cake itself) in as even a row as possible. Put a red birthday candle in each of the marshmallows. If you have trouble attaching the marshmallows, icing can be used like glue.
7.The large candle is separate from the cake. You will use it to light the little candles just as Christ lights our lives.
Jesus' Birthday Celebration (you can have multiple readers or just one, it doesn't really matter as long as the story is told. If you don't feel comfortable singing the songs it is ok, everyone is different on that)
Person 1: Our Christmas Birthday Cake tells us that we are celebrating Jesus' Birthday. Let us sing, "Oh Come All Ye Faithful".
Person 2: "Lo unto us is born this day a Savior, which is Christ the Lord!"
Person 3: The Angel on the cake reminds us of the shepherd story, and the promise of "Peace on earth, good will among men."
Person 4: The Bethlehem star is the symbol of the story of the Wise Men, and how long they looked for the new King. Let us sing the 1st verse of "We Three Kings".
Person 1: We light the large candle which we call the Christ candle.
Person 2: As we light the little Birthday candles, Think of the many years that have passed since Jesus' birth. The circle they form tells us that God will always be with us.
Person 3: The flame from the candles reminds us that Jesus is the light of the world. Jesus even said, "I am the light of the world. No one comes to the Father except through Jesus His son." Let us all repeat that verse Together.
Person 4: Let us bow our heads. Jesus, be with us through the days and nights and fill our hearts with your pure light. Amen
Person 1: We thank Jesus for coming to this earth as a baby and giving us parents to help us do good things.
Person 2: Let us all sing "Silent Night".
Person 3: Together, let us all say, "Happy Birthday Jesus".
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JESUS!!!!
Now you can blow out the candles and eat the cake to celebrate His birthday! If you would like to give Him a present for His birthday, have paper hearts for the kids to color. Tape, glue or magnet the heart to a place in the house where everyone can be reminded that the best gift we can give Jesus is our heart.
Wow! I love this idea! Thanks for sharing!!
