The Gospel According to Jeffrey

We love our church and especially the children's ministry. It seems that Jeffrey is really growing in his "realization" of God and that there is someone protecting us. The best part is, when you learn about God there are a ton of great stories that come along with Him! Over the past couple months Jeffrey has opened up with his verbal communication skills and enjoys telling me about what he learns while in "His Church" (as he calls it).

This past week I picked Jeffrey up from his class and the teacher told him to "be sure and tell mommy about the woman at the well!" He smiled at her and we turned to walk towards Bubba's room. As we stood waiting for Bubba, Jeffrey pulled me down to his face and whispered, "mommy, we need to get water for Jesus cause he is thirsty". I tried desperately not to laugh because this kid was serious! As a mom and an educator I realize the importance of not stifling the excitement of a newly learned idea. I attempt to work with the information he gives me and help him develop his new ideas and lessons into something more concrete. However, this one just hit me as really funny partly because I know how serious he takes his chore of feeding and giving water to Molly. Oh my, if we also have to keep Jesus full of water we may be spending a ton on our next water bill. However, I decided not to respond and continue on my mission to pick up Bubba and then head to the car to return home.

Mission accomplished.

As we began to drive off I asked Jeffrey, as I do every week, to tell me about what he learned in church. The conversation went something like this:

"Well, there was this mommy who needed to give Jesus water cause he was really thirsty and then she didn't give him any cause she ran away. He is still really thirsty mommy! I need to go get him water! Does he like the bottles of water we have at home? I can give him one of those but you will have to open the lid cause it is too tight for me."

Realizing that he had the basis for a pretty good story with just a few stray thoughts I decided to "guide" him through the story the way I know it was told but that just seemed to add to our imagination and here is where we went!

"Jeffrey, did Jesus say anything to the woman about special water?"

"Yes, he told her that He had some special water that tastes like Coke! I sometimes like coke and sometimes I don't. I think I would like water that tastes like chocolate milk. I think that Jesus would rather have chocolate milk too. I think He likes it better than water."

So there you go. For those of you who THOUGHT you read the story about the woman at the well but ended up with a few questions. Just let my Jeffrey explain it to you. Clearly, Jesus is really thirsty and needs us to get Him water, sometimes water tastes like coke and Jesus and Jeffrey both like chocolate milk more than water."

The End.:-)
