Some days I wonder if God knew what He was doing giving me two boys. I mean seriously, I'm an only child who grew up in a fun but fairly quiet house. I look at where my life is right now and wonder what on earth He was thinking and why it would be OK for me to raise two very hyper, very loud, very BOY boys.
Today we were playing in Bubba's room. For Christmas he got a riding toy that looks like a zebra and plays music. The kid loves this thing. He rides it any chance he gets. As he becomes a more proficient rider he also likes to try tricks like standing on the seat while holding onto something and doing things while riding backwards. Well, tonight he tried a new stunt. Jeffrey got on the seat and started riding it while Bubba held onto the back and was drug along (like cans on the back of a newlywed's car) I didn't really know how to react other than laugh my head off and then go get my camera. Honestly, my oldest son was dragging my youngest on the floor behind the riding toy! The thing that topped it all off was Bubba's belly laugh. He was laughing hysterically!
Eventually the game started to take a turn for more dangerous routes and so I asked them to play with another toy. Sure enough, instead of getting a book or some blocks, they got Bubba's chair. Now I did not hear them discuss the game they would play yet somehow they just know what roles they would take on and immediately started their game of "Chair Trampoline". Bubba sat down in the chair and Jeffrey got on the floor under it hitting the bottom with his feet. At first this was a harmless little game that made both boys laugh but very quickly turned into a violent game of let's see how high Bubba can go in the air. Before I knew it Bubba and the chair were air born. Now please let me make a side note here. I'm very impressed with the leg strength that Jeffrey showed during this demonstration. He was leg pressing about 24 pounds and considering that he only weighs 41 pounds that is pretty amazing. OK, back to the regularly scheduled story. As if everything was in slow motion I saw Bubba go one direction and the chair another. I attempted to catch him but my arms just weren't long enough. He hit the floor with a thud and then down came the chair. I watched to see what would happen next and waited for the screams of pain but instead was surprised with screams of laughter. Oh my, this kid just landed on the back of his head and is laughing! What am I going to do?
Needless to say, this life is very different from my life growing up. I'm working on a major learning curve here. I just pray that I manage to keep them alive during this time of growing, learning and extreme need for trying out every daredevil move in the book.:-) I do have to say though, no matter what it was that God was thinking when he gave me boys, I'm sure glad He did. I wouldn't change a thing. I can't wait to see how these two grow and develop into amazing young men. I feel so blessed that I was chosen to be their mommy.
