It's My Potty! (episode 4)

Oh my, oh my. Today was day 3 and from all I have read and heard, today was supposed to be our "breakthrough" day. I woke up ready for the big event and ready for the celebration! We all got out of bed, I began to get Bubba ready for breakfast and my dear sweet, potty training child comes to me and ASKS to sit on the potty! Oh can it really happen this easy??? Can a child grasp the concept this quickly? Thank you Lord for helping us through this time!

I helped him get on the potty and he sat, and sat, and sat, and sat.......... NOTHING! Finally he looked at me and said, "Shoo (again this is what he calls himself) DONE!" I could understand his feeling so I decided (against my better judgement) to let him get up. This time I didn't try to talk him into just another few min and sure enough, he stood up, put his big boy pants on and peed everywhere. OH SNAP!

So it turns out it didn't happen in 3 days, it wasn't that easy and he didn't grasp the concept that quickly. Back to the grindstone. We continued our shuffle of changing Bubba's diapers, checking Jeffrey's need to potty, taking Molly out to potty and back to the beginning again. I'm pretty sure I did more potty detail today then a urologist.

The day went on and then it happened, he got the look on his face and we were standing right next to the potty. I scooped him up, yanked his pants off and sat him down just in time for him to make a deposit at the bank! I was so proud and he did it just in time for David to walk in the room so we could have a family celebration! Woohooooo! This was great! It was more than a few drops, it was in time and he was soooooooo stinking proud of himself.

After our celebration we continued on with our day accident free but no more deposits. (Turns out he has amazing bladder control). That brings us to tonight. The time of day when I seriously thought about packing my bags for an unknown destination and staying until he was potty trained or leaving for college (which ever came first). Following my "consistency" rule I continued on doing everything that was in our plan for this process but I guess he thought one deposit a day was all he was required to do. He managed to have a 1 hour fit mixed with screaming, shutting himself in his room, more screaming, yelling at the dog, jumping up and down, and more screaming. Not only was Bubba staring at him like he was crazy, Molly went and hid in her cage and I quickly found the Advil bottle. It was insane how bad this fit was and no matter how hard I tried to control the situation, he was out of control.

After attempting several methods of calming his mood I decided to remove Bubba from the scene and take him to his room to play. I told Jeffrey that once he gathered his temper and controlled himself he could come play with us. It took a couple min but he soon followed in sniffing but not crying. That's when it happened, I was totally unprepared but he tooted and the look came across his face again. Once again I found myself scooping him up and running to the bathroom. We made it! Whew! That's two in one day with only one floor accident! YAY!

Jeffrey decided that he wanted to sit on the potty for a few extra min, (which I was totally fine with) so I had to gather a few things to contain Bubba and keep myself busy. I left the room for a few seconds and came back to find Bubba in the bathtub,(thankfully that water doesn't come on easy)

Jeffrey beating on the wall like a prisoner beats on his bars and still Molly was hiding in her cage (I'm pretty sure she liked the pound better than our house this week). Once again, I felt the need to "take back the house" (if you don't watch The Middle you need to). I quickly got control back, put Bubba to bed and then started the process of bringing Jeffrey drinks, snacks and books. He sat for about 40 more min but again, nothing came out. Oh well, at least he sat and tried. That's a victory in my book. It was quite a day but one full of success. I'm not going to lie and tell you that I feel like we have a grasp of this concept but at least I didn't use as many Clorox wipes today.:-)

I'm pretty sure that from here on out we will continue to have good days and bad days but all in all I feel like we have a good communication (deer in the headlights look followed by my scooping and running). Eventually I believe that he will figure out it is easier to just go in and potty on his own then try to get mommy's attention for the scoop and run. I also believe that this process will be mastered before he gets married, but if it is not I hope he marries a wife who is very strong as he is projecting to be over 6 feet tall and the scoop and run will be really hard if she is only 5 feet tall.:-)
