The Observer

Three years ago I gave birth to an amazing child. We knew from the beginning that Jeffrey was special but we wouldn't know how special until he was able to share with us his thoughts and wishes. Today my gift turned three. I knew when I had kids that they would change my life, I just never knew how they would impact the person I am and will be.

Jeffrey is a very quiet child compared to most kids his age. I call him "my observer". I know that once his speech kicks in he will be able to walk away from a room full of people and give me a run down of conversations, what people are wearing, body language and everything else. Nothing gets past him. He may seem shy but that is just a mask for being observant. On top of his ability to notice things, he is also very discerning and compassionate. I completely trust his feelings when it comes to new people. If he pulls away from someone then I trust that there is probably a really good reason. He seems to know who is OK and who is questionable. So far, as far as I know, his feelings have been 100% right on. As for his compassion, it is deeper than that possessed by most adults. He feels when his brother is hurt, he gives an immediate kiss when someone says "ow". He can feel the pain someone else feels and for this reason we have to really be careful about what we expose him to. I have never seen someone feel pain for others the way this child does. It is an amazing gift that I can't wait to see grow and how God will use it.

I feel so blessed that I get to be his mommy. I know he is headed for great things and can't wait to see how Christ uses him. Some days I see him as a Vet working with animals. His compassion for animals big and small is amazing. He seems to be able to talk to them. Other days I see him as a doctor for the elderly. His calming spirit seems to take over a room when he walks in and what once was lost in their memory seems to be found when they see his face. Youth seems to be revived when he is around our more experienced friends. I could also see Jeffrey as a teacher. His patience with Bubba when trying to teach him something WAAAYYYY beyond his ability level is amazing. It is as if he feels that Bubba can do it if he is patient enough with him. I don't know what he will chose as his life path but I know whatever it is, he will bless the ones he works with. He will have a heart of love and a spirit of peace. What a blessing.

Happy Birthday Little Man. Mommy and Daddy love you so much! Thank you for being such a great addition to our family.:-)
