So I have had several friends ask me for some good crock pot recipes and yummy easy to make ideas for "mixing up the normal mealtime chaos". I decided to do a post every once in a while with my new or old favorite from the day or week. Today I'm going to post my yummy Sloppy Joes
Ground beef (or turkey)
1 tsp minced garlic
1 large onion, finely chopped
2 ribs celery, chopped
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
3 1/2 TBSP yellow mustard
1 TBSP chili powder
1 1/2 cups ketchup
3 TBSP Worcestershire sauce
Brown your meat. While meat is in skillet, combine everything else into crock pot and stir well. Add meat then cook on low for 6 hours.
Missi's twist. I like to make this the day before I need it. I let it cook for about 4 hours the night before then set it in the fridge overnight. I put it back on for about 2 hours before serving. By letting it sit the meat has a chance to really soak up all the flavors. This stuff is so stinking yummy that you will never again be able to eat regular sloppy joes. The best part is that no matter how much I have left, even if it is not enough for a whole sandwich, I put the leftover in a zip bag and freeze it. The next time I make this dish I add the frozen stuff and there ya go, you don't need as much meat and you have absolutely NO waste. I love meals that leave nothing in the trash can.
Hope you enjoy my "Meal of the Day!"
