Chill Out

I have been reading blog after blog about why babies don't cry in this country and why babies are smarter in that country.  To tell you the truth, something is missing from every single blog that I have read.  I have read that you are not supposed to feed babies till they are this age but if you wait to feed them they will not get the nutrition they need to be smart.  Don't help them walk or potty train because they will skip steps and need physical therapy.  OH MY WORD!!!  SERIOUSLY PEOPLE!  GET A GRIP!

EVERY SINGLE BLOG tells you when and how to raise your baby.  Guess what???? Not a single author of those blogs knows your baby.  I have three boys and not a single boy has done anything in the same time frame that the others did.  My first was up and walking at 9 months.  The second didn't walk till 13 months.  This third doesn't really show any signs of walking yet but who knows?  He is 7 months so I'm not gonna guess with him.  The oldest potty trained at 4.5 years mostly because he grew out of the biggest pull ups.  The middle potty trained himself while living in a hotel on a business trip.  Every kid is different so I laugh at parents who raise kids "by the book".  That method the book offers may have worked for the kid the author tested it on but I promise you kid is different and will have different needs!  Please tell me that you are always hungry at 7 am, 12 noon, and 5 pm every single day????  Why would you think your kid is hungry at those times? Why would you enforce those strict mealtimes on your kid???  Common sense people!!!!  The only piece of advice that I could see that would work for every child across the board no matter what country you live in is this......

HAVE FUN WITH YOUR KIDS!!!!!!!

Oh my word.  Your kids need to be kids.  Stop trying to raise little adults.  Laugh with them.  Read in a funny voice.  Tell them jokes.  Wrestle with them.  Ride bikes with them.  LAUGH ABOUT SILLY STUFF.  Lay on the ground and find shapes in the clouds.  Roll down a hill for goodness sakes.  Let them see your silly side.  I'm not saying to stop being an adult or stop being the voice of reason but geez, lighten up!  Not everything in life is so serious!!!

The reason I'm writing this is because I was watching a family at the store today and I was so sad for the little boy who was trying to get his mom to dance with him in the music section. She said, "adults don't do that in stores and kids shouldn't either."  Hey lady, you suck!  Your kid was trying to be fun.  Lighten up!  We worry so much about what people think that we stop living.  Who cares if you dance with your kid???  I promise you will never see the people at Walmart again but your kid will forever remember that one day when you two broke it down at the store together.  Have fun and teach your kids to have fun. THAT, is parenting advice that I think EVERY expert needs to include in their books.  Forget setting schedules to the second and making sure everything is all natural.  Feed your child's natural "kid tendencies" by having fun with them.  Everything else will work out eventually.
